Ella Deacy
North East-based artist Ella Deacy, who holds a degree in Filmmaking from Manchester School of Art and has been enriched by studies with the RHS, navigates the creative landscape of foraging, video art, sculpture, drawing, and so much more.
Her practice is ideas-based, where every project, from immersive videos to plant-based research, becomes an artwork. Drawing, a cornerstone of her expression, finds its way into her renowned cards, cherished by many for their authenticity.
Ella's playful relationship with imagery infuses her work with a collage-like quality, evident in the dynamic screens of her videos. Her past accolades include a vibrant live performance at Old Granada Studios for a Brighter Sound residency, where her unique, reactive work captivated an audience of a thousand. She has spent over ten years in Manchester where she came up with her contemporaries in the underground creative scene, supporting music producers, bands, and other visiting acts like DJ Stingray and Aux 88.
In recent endeavors, Ella has adorned the walls of The Black Path in a commission by SUSTRANS to create an uplifting mural of edible plants with her vibrant palette. Her work with the international fashion collective Congregation Design for London Fashion Week further exemplifies her ability to create entirely new, striking work that invites people to climb inside and turn on their imagination.
Her work with The Super Slow Way on the 'Wetlab' floating classroom project was more about engaging the world with the joys of bogs and weeds. Ella's multidisciplinary approach promises a ripe and juicy future.
